The invention relates to a modular selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system for an exhaust gas aftertreatment system. The modular SCR system includes a housing assembly and a tray assembly. The housing assembly includes an outer shell and an aperture. The housing has an inlet, an outlet, and a housing wall extending between the inlet and the outlet. An aperture extends through the housing wall. The tray assembly includes a frame and a modular SCR catalyst member. The frame is configured to be inserted into the housing through the hole, and is selectively coupled to the housing.
