Zusammenfassung:The invention relates to multi-stage block coding. A method of multi-stage encoding is disclosed, and the method comprises receiving an input block of data for encoding and one or more previously encoded samples associated with the input block; dividing the input block into at least a first sub-region and a second sub-region; generating a prediction for the first sub-region based on the one or more previously encoded samples; obtaining the residual data of the first sub-region by using the prediction for the first sub-region; generating a reconstruction of the first sub-region by using the residual data of the first sub-region and the prediction for the first sub-region; generating a prediction for the second sub-region by using the reconstruction of the first sub-region; obtaining the residual data for the second sub-region by using the prediction for the second sub-region.
