The invention relates to a label application system (10) and method for applying a label (12) to a package (14) travelling on a conveyor (16) along a conveying path including: an applicator apparatus (20) which is operable to move a label (12) into contact with a package (14); a control system (30), which controls operation of the applicator apparatus (20); and a sensor system (40) operable to detect an edge of the package, a distance from a reference point to the package, and the speed at which the package is travelling, wherein the control system (30) is operable to receive and process the data from the sensor system (40) relating to the package and initiate operation of the applicator apparatus (20) such that the label (12) is applied to the package in a desired position as the package (14) moves in a direction of travel. 本发明涉及一种标签施用系统(10)，以及用于向在传送机(16)上沿传送路径行进的包装(14)施用标签(12)的方法，包括：施用器装置(20)，其可操作以将标签(12)移动成与包装(14)接触；控制系统(30)，其控制施用器装置(20)的操作；以及传感器系统(40)，其可操作以检测包装的边缘、从参考点到包装的距离以及包装的行进速度，其中控制系统(30)可操作以接收和处理来自
