Zusammenfassung:A phase modulator (101) for reflecting incident light (st) at a desired angle is provided with: a plurality of reflection pixels (20) and a plurality of pixel circuits (21) that are disposed at places where a plurality of column data lines (D1-Dm) and a plurality of row scanning lines (G1-Cn) intersect with each other; and a liquid crystal (42) in which the refractive index with respect to incident light (st) changes in accordance with a drive voltage supplied by the pixel circuits (21). The column data lines (D1-Dm) output, to the pixel circuits (21), a control voltage that varies up to a prescribed maximum voltage (VLC). The pixel circuits (21) are each equipped with a charge pump (31) that is capable of amplifying the control voltage. In the case when the drive voltage supplied to the liquid crystal (42) is not higher than the maximum voltage, the control voltage is outputted, without being amplified, to the liquid crystal (42), whereas in the case when the drive voltage supplied to the liquid crystal (42)
