The method comprises the following steps: mixing grass seeds of leguminous plants and gramineous plants according to a sowing rate of 1:(1-2) to obtain a grass seed mixture, and sowing the grass seed mixture in the open pit coal mine waste dump from May to June. According to the method disclosed by the invention, the diversity of plants can be improved, soil improvement and plant growth can be promoted, secondary damage to the soil of the dump can be prevented under the condition that no exogenous chemical fertilizer is added, and the stability of an ecological system can be enhanced.
