The method comprises the steps that: a main control terminal performs synchronous time service on monitoring units in a wide-area environment, and transmits a synchronization instruction to the monitoring units through wireless communication to complete time synchronization of the main control terminal and all the monitoring units; and the main control terminal analyzes the received data, processes the current data acquired at the same time according to timestamp information, calculates relative dielectric loss factors, and compares the relative dielectric loss factors to complete judgment of an insulation defect of equipment and positioning of the equipment with the insulation defect.
