The invention relates to a cable tensioning device for a surgical tool assembly. The surgical tool assembly includes a housing, an end effector, and an elongate shaft connecting the housing to the end effector. The housing includes a plurality of reels, each having an annular collar and a cable anchored on each annular collar. The cable tensioning device includes: a substrate; and a lower platform; wherein the lower platform has a central recess that receives the housing. The device also includes an upper platform including a carrier plate having a plurality of circular bearings receiving a plurality of torque bolts secured within the plurality of circular bearings, each torque bolt having a plurality of openings capable of receiving a plurality of pins, each pin includes one or more fasteners receivable in the annular collar of a spool of the housing of the surgical tool assembly.
