Production of aromatic dicarboxylic acids

The present invention provides a process for generating water vapor in a process for preparing an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, the process for preparing an aromatic dicarboxylic acid comprising catalytic oxidation of a hydrocarbon precursor in an organic solvent, the process for generating water vapor comprising the steps of: i) heating a crude aromatic dicarboxylic acid slurry to form a crude aromatic dicarboxylic acid solution; ii) passing the crude aromatic dicarboxylic acid solution to a hydrogenation reactor; iii) passing the purified aromatic dicarboxylic acid solution from the hydrogenation reactor to a series of one or more crystallizers; and iv) passing heat from a crystallizer discharge stream from the series of one or more crystallizers to the water stream in the water vapor generator to generate water vapor.
