The engine response time calculation method and device are applied to the field of engine cylinder deactivation control. The method can comprise the steps that the angle difference between a current valve timing angle and a target valve timing angle of an engine in a torque switching process and the engine oil pressure of a main oil duct of the engine are obtained; the first response time of the engine is calculated according to the angle difference and the engine oil pressure of the main oil duct; the second response time of the engine is calculated according to the engine oil pressure of the main oil duct; and the system response time of the engine is determined according to the first response time and the second response time.
