The method comprises the steps that: S10, line terminals in a power distribution network periodically collect three-phase and zero-mode voltage signals, and detect whether a line has a single-phase grounding fault or not; S11, the line terminals obtain fault waveforms, and fault characteristic values corresponding to the line terminals are calculated; S12, the line terminals uniformly upload the fault characteristic values carrying address information and time labels to a main control terminal; and S13, the main control terminal positions a line fault according to all the fault characteristic values, a topology identification matrix corresponding to the lines and a predetermined fault unified judgment strategy. By implementing the invention, the fault positioning process and the data transmission quantity between the terminals can be simplified, and the positioning efficiency is improved.
