The invention provides a method for preparing porous nano magnesium oxide by using a corn straw template method and an application of the porous nano magnesium oxide, and belongs to the field of nanometal oxide preparation. The method comprises the steps: firstly, separating the outer skin and inner core of straw, boiling with a sodium hydroxide solution, washing, and drying for later use; then preparing a precursor solution, respectively boiling the outer skin and the inner core of the straw in the solution, and repeatedly dipping; and after the impregnation is finished, drying and crystallizing the straw template impregnated with the precursor solution, and calcining at high temperature to obtain the porous nano magnesium oxide product.
