Zusammenfassung: | The invention relates to a novel method for reducing toxic and side effects of chemotherapeutic drugs caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) by supplementing (injecting or taking) 5-phosphoribose (R5P) after a patient is treated by chemotherapeutic drugs. The novel method has the advantages that after the chemotherapeutic drugs such as psoralen are used for inducing DNA damage, the ROS level is continuously increased, if R5P is added during cell culture, ROS production is remarkably inhibited, and the DNA repair process is basically not affected or even improved. Meanwhile, the cell volume isnot increased any more (the number of mitochondria is reduced). DNA damage induced ROS is a by-product of substance and energy metabolism through metabolic pathways such as PPP, and activation of thePPP metabolic pathways is to meet the requirement of repairing specific DNA damage. Although the psoralen is mainly used as a model in the description of the invention, R5P-based drug combination canbe universally applied to |
