The invention relates to a method for dissolving fibrous material, in particular waste paper. The fibrous material is supplied to a dissolution section (1) of a rotating drum where the fibrous material is mixed with water, and the fibrous material suspension is conducted from the dissolution section (1) into a sorting section (2) of the drum, said sorting section having multiple sorting zones (3,4) which lie adjacently to one another in an axial direction and in each of which a division process is carried out into a fine fraction (10, 12) and a coarse fraction (11, 13). The coarse fraction (11) of one sorting zone (3) reaches the respective axially adjacent following sorting zone (4), and the fine fraction (10, 12) of each sorting zone (3, 4) is guided to a dedicated collection container(5, 6) with a dedicated outlet.
