The invention belongs to the technical field of steam turbine electric generators, and provides a permanent magnet auxiliary exciter for a steam turbine electric generator, wherein the permanent magnet auxiliary exciter comprises a stator and a rotor which are arranged in a matched manner, and the rotor comprises a sleeve, a plurality of N-pole magnetic pole groups, a plurality of S-pole magneticpole groups and spacing cushion blocks; the N-pole magnetic pole groups and the S-pole magnetic pole groups are fixed on the outer side of the sleeve at intervals along the circumference; the spacingcushion blocks are arranged between the N-pole magnetic pole groups and the S-pole magnetic pole groups which are adjacent to each other. Compared with the prior art, the rotor of the permanent magnetauxiliary exciter adopts a surface-mounted structure, and magnetic steel is fixed on the sleeve by using bolts through a pressing plate, so that the optimization design of the pole-arc coefficient ofa motor is facilitated, and
