The invention provides application of an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent in purification of p-phenylene diisocyanate. A p-phenylene diisocyanate synthesis crude product is purified. The invention also provides a purification method of p-phenylene diisocyanate. The characteristic that the solubility of the aromatic hydrocarbon solvent to p-phenylene diisocyanate and impurities in a p-phenylene diisocyanate crude product is different is utilized, the method comprises the following steps of: dissolving p-phenylene diisocyanate in an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent, adsorbing impurities, especially colored impurities, through activated carbon, performing filtering to remove the impurities, conducting cooling to separate out p-phenylene diisocyanate, and then performing filtering and drying to obtainthe final required product p-phenylene diisocyanate which is white in color and neat in appearance, thereby enhancing the market recognition degree of p-phenylene diisocyanate.
