A method, a mobile device, and a computer program product for managing display brightness of a mobile device. The method includes detecting a first temperature value of a mobile device and determining, by a processor, if the first temperature value is greater than a threshold temperature value. In response to determining that the first temperature value is greater than the threshold temperature value, video data is retrieved for several video frames. The method further includes determining if the video data contains a transition from a first video frame to a second video frame that includes achange in light level that is greater than a light level threshold.
