A plumbing component (600) for controlling the mixture of two supplies of water having different temperatures, the plumbing component comprising: a cold water inlet (4; 404) configured to receive a supply of cold water; a hot water inlet (6; 406) configured to receive a supply of hot water; an outlet (8; 408) configured to output cold water or hot water or a mixture thereof; a flow shut-off mechanism (310a, 310b, 310c; 420c, 420d, 420c', 420d') operable to restrict the flow of water out of the outlet (8; 408); a first flow control valve for controlling the flow of cold water from the cold water inlet (4; 404) to the outlet (8; 408); and a second flow control valve for controlling the flow of hot water from the hot water inlet (6; 406) to the outlet (8; 408).
