Under an alkaline condition, lignin is subjected to three steps of surface functional group modification, metal coordination and carbonization to obtain the lignin ligand hexahedral iron-based catalyst. The material has a metal-organic framework (MOF)-like structure, is a hexahedral iron-based catalyst, and has the advantages of large specific surface area, strong stability and high reaction activity. The main raw material lignin for preparing the material is rich in source, the production cost can be remarkably reduced, and the material has excellent social and economic benefits; and the material also has good catalytic hydrogenation capability and has good application prospectsin the fields of water electrolysis, catalytic hydrogenation and the like.
