The invention relates to an interior assembly (10) for a motor vehicle, comprising a decorative layer (12) and an illumination unit (22), wherein the decorative layer (12) has a plurality of recesses(18) which are arranged relative to one another in such a way that they represent at least one symbol (28), and wherein the illumination unit (22) is associated with the recesses (18) in such a way that the light coming from the illumination unit (22) in the switched-on state of the illumination unit (22) is directed through at least one portion of the recesses (18) to a surface (24) of the decorative layer (12).
