The material is composed of two parts of an electrolyte block material andan alumina powder material, and the material proportion is as follows: 70% of the alumina powder material and 30% of the electrolyte block material. According to the material and the preparation method thereof, compared with an existing heat preservation covering material, the heat preservation covering material prepared through the method is stirred evenly, and the heat preservation effect of anelectrolytic cell is guaranteed; the granularity of the electrolyte block material is controlled within 10mm, so that the edge-closing furnace surface can be well shaped, the poor gas collection effect of electrolytic flue gas caused by shell collapse and flaming is reduced, the on-site manual labor intensity is reduced, the production efficiency is improved, and good application and popularization value is achieved.
