The map updating method comprises the following steps: determining that the road way side of a road on a map is interrupted, wherein the road way side represents the boundary of a vehicle using part of the road;determining a reference distance between an existing part of the road way side and a separation line based on the map, wherein the existing part is within a predetermined range away from the interrupt, and the separation line represents the separation between different advancing directions of the road; and generating a supplement part specific to the interrupt on the map based on the reference distance and the separation line.
