An elevator door monitoring system for monitoring movement of an elevator door (6, 16) comprises an elevator door detector (30) including an RFID tag (32) configured for being attached to a first element (16a, 26a) of the elevator door (6, 16); and an RFID sensor (34) configured for being attached to a second element (16b, 26b) of the elevator door (6, 16), wherein the second element (16b, 26b) ismovable with respect to the first element (16a, 26a).
