The invention relates to a method for operating a forming press (100) which comprises a plurality of press components and a plurality of tool components. According to the method, a forming press (100)is provided which has at least one force sensor (16) and at least one force actuator (17), each arranged in a press and/or tool component. In addition, a forming simulation (18) is carried out, whichtakes into consideration an elastic behavior of the press and/or tool components. Target values (21) of forces acting on at least one press and/or tool component are determined by means of the forming simulation (18). Furthermore, a forming process (19) is carried out by means of the forming press (100).
