The invention discloses a video playback method and device. The method comprises the following steps of searching a to-be-searched target area in a video to determine a first result of the position ofthe target area in a preset table, according to the type of a to-be-searched target object in the video, obtaining a target object, and searching index data with the same type as the target object tobe searched in a pre-established corresponding relationship between the index data and the type of the target object, and when a second result and a first result in the searched index data meet a preset condition, playing back a frame picture corresponding to one frame of picture information in the index data. Thus, according to the type of the target object and the target object, the to-be-searched video can be quickly searched in the video, and then the searched video is played back, so that the purpose of quick positioning and playback can be achieved, and the video playback efficiency andaccuracy can be improved.
