The invention provides a decoding method and a device. The method comprises the steps of obtaining a to-be-decoded frame; and for each to-be-decoded frame, decoding the to-be-decoded frame to obtain decoded data, judging whether the to-be-decoded frame meets a preset frame loss strategy, if yes, discarding the decoded data corresponding to the to-be-decoded frame, and otherwise, storing the decoded data corresponding to the to-be-decoded frame. According to the method, a frame loss strategy is adopted, the decoded data of all frames are not stored any more, and only the decorded data corresponding to part of the frames are stored; the amount of the stored decoded data is reduced; it means that the amount of decoding data transferred between the GPU and the CPU, and/or between the GPUs, and/or between the CPUs is also reduced.
