The SCR system includes a delivery pump and a plurality of metering valves (A, B), at least one of which is faulty. The method includes the following steps: initially, obtaining (200) the total fine-tuning amount (Yg) of the SCR system (1) from the mass (mp) of a reducing agent solution transferred bya transfer pump (41) and the nominal mass (mD) of the reducing agent solution fed through all the metering valves (A, B); and then obtaining (300) the mass share ([mu]A) of the reducing agent solution used for one of the metering valves (A). One of the metering valves (A) has been fed with the mass share ([mu]A) during the previous adaptation cycle (220).
