The invention relates to a method for operating a card and a card. The card comprises a tambour having clothing of a specific type as well as parts which face said clothing and which have a surface structure, wherein the distance between the clothing of the tambour and one or more of the facing parts, and/or a variable which is dependent on said distance, is determined. The tambour is electrically insulated from the facing parts.
