The embodiment of the invention discloses a method and device for controlling an elevator. According to the embodiment of the method, the method comprises the steps of receiving a ride request sent bya user through an operation panel at an elevator landing call station, wherein the ride request includes call floor information; acquiring a video of a call floor in response to determining that a call request, for the call floor indicated by call floor information, sent by the operation panel in an elevator car is not received; carrying out face detection on a video frame of the acquired video,and determining whether the call floor is a floor at which the elevator car should stop or not based on face detection results; and controlling the elevator car to stop at the elevator landing call station in response to determining that the call floor is the floor at which the elevator car should stop.
