Zusammenfassung:	A process for the preparation of highly branched polyisoolefins (I) is claimed. Isoolefins (II) are polymerised in a one step process in solution, suspension or gas phase in the presence of bifunctional monomers (III) containing a group cationically polymerisable and a group that acts as an initiator for the cationic polymerisation of (II) at -100 to +20 degrees C, optionally in the presence of an inert organic solvent (IV) and alkylalumoxanes (V).
