The invention discloses a cross flow type cooling tower and a liquid distribution device thereof. The liquid distribution device comprises a liquid distribution assembly, a spray assembly and a switching valve. When fog dispassion is required, the switching valve is closed, the spray assembly is in a non-spray state, only the liquid distribution assembly sprays a first part of filler, air flow passing through the first part of the filler exchanges heat with a liquid of the liquid distribution assembly to become saturated wet and hot air; a second part of the filler is covered by the spray assembly, air flowing through a second part of the filler cannot make contact with the liquid medium and thus is only affected by high-temperature environment in a tower when flowing through the second part of the filler to form dry and hot air, the dry and hot air and the wet and hot air are mixed in the tower to become unsaturated wet air when leaving the filler, and no white smoke is produced whenthe unsaturated wet air i
