The invention provides functional waterborne resin and a preparation method thereof. The functional waterborne resin is characterized by comprising, by weight, 10-50 parts of functional acrylate monomers, 100-150 parts of acrylate monomers, 4-20 parts of first crosslinking monomers, 1-10 parts of second crosslinking monomers, 4-20 parts of emulsifying agents, 0.3-1 part of initiators and 200-300 parts of deionized water. The functional acrylate monomers comprise hydroxyethyl acrylate, isophorone diisocyanate, antioxidants AO-80, tetrahydrofuran and catalysts, the weight ratio of the hydroxyethyl acrylate, the isophorone diisocyanate, the antioxidants AO-80, the tetrahydrofuran to the catalysts is (50-60):(110-150):(80-200):(100-200):(0.01-1), and the catalysts are provided with dibutyltindilaurate.
