Ferric citrate dosage forms

The disclosure relates to ferric citrate tablets and dosage forms, and particularly relates to: a tablet comprising granules comprising ferric citrate and a binder, wherein the tablet has an average surface area mass ratio equal to or greater than 1 square meter per gram. A method for preparing the tablet includes: mixing ferric citrate with one or more binders to form ferric citrate particles under conditions where the LOD of water does not exceed 25%, shaping the ferric citrate particles into ingots to shape the tablets.
