Washer fixation method and system

An assembly process method and system are provided. The assembly process comprises elastically deforming a non-circularly shaped washer 200 while driving the washer 200 through an insertion tool 214 into a workpiece 206, such as a pressure sensor. The workpiece 206 has a correspondingly shaped recess 202 with an inner wall diameter 236 less than a maximum radial dimension 234 of the non-circular washer 200. The washer 200 is released from radial compression into the recess 202 so as to permit the washer 200 to become fixated against the inner wall 208 of the recess by a retention force.
