The present invention provides a cleaning tray for a surface cleaning apparatus having a base assembly with a suction nozzle and an agitator. The present invention provides systems and methods for self-cleaning extractors cleaners including vertical or robotic extractor cleaners. In one system, a tray for docking the extractor cleaner during the self-cleaning mode can be provided. The tray may include one or more injectors for injecting a cleaning fluid toward the agitator of the extractor cleaner.
