The invention discloses a data transmission method for a multi-server adaptive streaming media system. Streaming media data transmission is adjusted adaptively according to a state-based bit rate adaptive adjustment strategy; and according to a flow connection number of a streaming media client, a bit rate adjustment delay strategy is employed, so that the advantages of the streaming media clientwith a plurality of streaming connection units at the bit rate adjustment frequency are weakened and the bandwidth obtaining capabilities of users with different connection numbers are balanced.
