The invention discloses a method of configuring UE to report PMI and RI in a TM8 transmission mode, and a base station. The method comprises the following steps: determining a current protocol versionand a current transmission mode; and when it is determined that the current protocol version is a R10 protocol version prior to R10-ac0 and the current transmission mode is TM8, sending an RRC reconfiguration first message to the UE in an RRC connection state, wherein the RRC reconfiguration first message is used for configuring the UE to report the PMI and the RI, and the antenna information ofthe RRC reconfiguration first message comprises a codebook subset restriction parameter field.
