Method for producing a cylindrical housing of an exhaust system and a method for producing an exhaust treatment unit

Disclosed is a method for producing a cylindrical housing of an exhaust treatment unit for vehicles comprising the following steps: a) providing a flat sheet metal part (16) which has at least one embossment (18); b) rounding the sheet metal part (16) in a rounding tool (22) by means of moving the sheet metal part (16) between rollers (24, 26) such that it obtains a cylindrical form having a longitudinal direction that is parallel to the roller axes, wherein at least one elastic roller is used such that the embossment (18) of the sheet metal part (16) is preserved during the rounding process and; c) connecting the longitudinal edges of the cylindrically-shaped sheet metal part (16) to form a pipe.
