The present invention relates to a signal generator having a rotating element capable of rotating about an axis of rotation. The signal generator also has a number of sensors that output sinusoidal signals and cosine signals, respectively. The sine and cosine signals of the corresponding sensor characterize the sine and cosine characteristics of the rotational position of the rotating element relative to the corresponding reference direction. The reference direction is orthogonal to the rotation axis. The signal generator has a calculation unit, a sinusoidal signal and a cosine signal are supplied to the calculation unit. The calculation unit determines the resulting sinusoidal signal and the resulting cosine signal by correlating the sine signal of the sensor and the arithmetic of the cosine signal. The calculation unit provides the resulting sinusoidal signal and the resulting cosine signal for further processing.
