The invention provides a picture storage method and apparatus. The picture storage method applied to the server comprises the steps of receiving a picture storage request of attribute information of at least one to-be-stored picture sent by the client of a branch; determining at least one first picture corresponding to the at least one to-be-stored picture respectively in the connected concentrated storage server according to the picture storage request; determining an MD5 value of each first picture; sending the MD5 value of each first picture to the client; receiving a target picture sent by the client, wherein the target picture includes the picture having the MD5 value mismatched with that of each first picture and determined from the at least one to-be-stored picture after the client compares the received MD5 value of each first picture with the MD5 value of the corresponding at least one to-be-stored picture in the client; and updating the picture corresponding to the branch and stored in the concentrat
