The present invention discloses a novel ultra wide band antenna with a groove shaped like Chinese character gong and symmetrical resonant cavity structures and having a trapped wave characteristic. The antenna comprises a dielectric substrate (1), a radiation unit (2), the groove shaped like the Chinese character gong on the radiation unit, a microstrip transmission line (4), resonant cavities of metal structures (5) and a grounding surface (6).
