The invention relates to an ATRP functional modified proppant and a preparation method thereof. The method comprises the steps: 1) selecting an initiator, and carrying out surface modification on a proppant; and 2) selecting a monomer with functional groups, through an atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) method, adopting a catalyst and a ligand, at a certain temperature and under suitable conditions, after a certain time, carrying out reaction grafting on the proppant surface with functional polymer chains, and making the proppant having the functional properties of hydrophobicity, temperature control property and pH sensitivity or reaction activity and the like.
