The preparation method includes steps of applying a certain concentration and dosage of sodium iodate to a rabbit through a method of carotid artery injection, so that the sodium iodate reaches the rabbit's eyes. Through above method, the sodium iodate dosage is few, and toxicity to the whole animal body is small, the animal life safety is not influenced; the method is simple and feasible, good in repeatability, small in individual model difference, and high in success rate. The preparation method provides a reliable model for the study of the retinitis pigmentosa, and also provides an animal model for the drug research and development and preclinical evaluation for treating retinitis pigmentosa.
