Metadata-assisted providing of appearance of data

The invention relates to metadata-assisted providing of appearance of data (310) on a second computing system (302) while said data (310) is actually present on a first computing system (310): Metadata (320, 330) that is associated with data (310) residing on a first computing system (301) is sent to at least a second computing system (302). The metadata is structured so that when interpreted by the second system, the second system provides an appearance that the data is local. The first system then receives a communication from the second computing system, demonstrating that a user has interacted with the appearance of data on the second system. Logic may be applied to determine how and when to send the data to the second system.
