The method comprises the steps that 1, a simulation model of a zinc oxide arrester under the action of a lightening transient overvoltage at a steep wave front of an electrical power system is established; 2, an impulse current is input based on the established simulation model to obtain a simulation model output signal; and 3, simulation calculation is performed on the arrester based on the simulation model output signal. The simulation calculation method achieves the technical effect of truthful simulation of the movement process of the arrester under the action of the overvoltage.
