Zusammenfassung: | Provided are an internal combustion engine control device and control method, whereby the volume of gas in a cylinder and the EGR rate can be accurately calculated using a relatively simple method and the internal combustion engine can be appropriately controlled using this EGR rate, even if the gas temperature in the cylinder changes as a result of the execution of internal EGR. An intra-cylinder gas volume Gact actually filled inside an air cylinder is calculated by correcting an ideal intra-cylinder gas volume Gth in accordance with an intra-cylinder gas temperature (Tcyl), by using an ideal intra-cylinder gas temperature Tcylth; and the EGR rate REGRT is calculated by using the intra-cylinder gas volume Gact and the intake air volume Gaircyl; said ideal intra-cylinder gas volume Gth being the gas volume filled inside the air cylinder in an ideal state assuming no circulation inside the air cylinder of exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine.
