The preparation method comprises following steps: 1, petroleum coke or pitch coke is mixed with a coating material; 2, an obtained mixture is subjected to thermal polymerization at 350 to 500 DEG C, wherein thermal polymerization pressure is controlled to be 0.01 to 10MPa, and reaction time is controlled to be 50 to 420min; 3, compound granulation is carried out; and 4, a compound granulation product is subjected to low temperature graphitization at 2000 to 2600 DEG C so as to obtain the carbon negative electrode material coated with compound artificial graphite, wherein the carbon negative electrode material can be taken as a lithium ion battery negative electrode material.
