The invention relates to an insulation detection device and method used for a DC motor. The device provided by the invention includes a DC drive device, an output DC busbar, a grounding detection device, a logic controller and a man-machine interface. The DC drive device is connected with the motor through the output DC busbar. The grounding detection device is connected with the output DC busbar. The grounding detection device is connected with the logic controller. The logic controller is connected with the DC drive device. The man-machine interface is connected with the logic controller. The grounding detection device detects real time ground insulation resistance value of a motor armature circuit and outputs signals to the logic controller.
