Zusammenfassung:	A hybrid vehicle controller according to the present invention is provided with a control means for controlling the output of an engine and a motor, the engagement and disengagement of a clutch, and the speed ratio of a continuously variable transmission, depending on operating conditions. When the vehicle is determined to be on a hill-climbing road during an electric vehicle mode in which the vehicle can travel using the driving force of the motor while the clutch is disengaged and the engine is stopped, the engine is started and the continuously variable transmission is forced to downshift to a predetermined speed ratio that allows starting on hill-climbing roads. 本发明的混合动力车辆的控制装置具备根据驾驶状态来控制发动机和马达的输出、离合器的接合和释放以及无级变速机的变速比的控制单元，在该混合动力车辆的控制装置中，设为在释放离合器并将发动机停止而能够利用马达的驱动力行驶的电动汽车模式期间判定为车辆处于上坡路时，启动发动机来将无级变速机强制降档至规定的能够进行上坡路起步的变速比。
