The present invention relates to a projector with adaptive illumination. The projector comprises a projector body; a distance detection device, a processor, a light source power controller, a light source, an image column module and an imaging lens are arranged in the projector body, wherein the distance detection device, the processor, the light source power controller, the light source, the image column module and the imaging lens are sequentially connected with one another, and the distance detection device and the imaging lens are arranged at the front part of the projector body.
