The invention relates to a cable material and particularly relates to a polyethylene cable material containing modified red mud and a preparation method thereof. The cable material is prepared from the following raw materials including, by weight, 30-40 parts of red mud, 12-18 parts of mica powder, 10-12 parts of methacrylic acid, 4-5 parts of glass powder, 2-5 parts of potassium nitrate, 8-10 parts of polyethylene glycol 400, 10-15 parts of fluorocarbon resin, 50-60 parts of linear high-density polyethylene, 10-12 parts of trioctyl trimellitate, 3-4 parts of barium sulfate, 15-20 parts of nitrile butadiene rubber, 5-8 parts of a color master batch, and 2-3 parts of an additive.
